Wine Poetry has gone through several incarnations, and we’ve come to think of ourselves as a collective designed to promote a new type of music, a new culture, and a new approach to being a band. We hope that your interest in Wine Poetry won’t stop with your enjoyment our music: we aim to offer our knowledge and opportunity. Wine Poetry has led us to explore history, politics, media, religion, and ourselves. Ideally it can do the same for the people on the other end of the speakers.

From playing acoustic guitar, to making synthesized beats, Jason provides the foundation for the lyrics and an atmosphere to shape their tone. Classical training and a multitude of influences from jazz to punk rock allow him to burst out of the box with a dirty solo, or to infuse a simple riff with the steadiness of spinning vinyl. Jason’s command of a variety of musical techniques allows him to guide crowds through Wine Poetry’s sound, keeping them hooked.

Thurston’s lyrics are capable of hitting the nervous system at all points from the cerebrum on down to the base of the spine. Complex metaphors and rhymed essays offer devastating critiques of society’s superficiality, while gut-level chants and forceful protests evoke the simple brutality of man’s darker emotions. He believes that the essence of religion lies in extending empathy and hospitality to one’s fellow man, and the essence of politics lies in waking up the population to the reality of its own situation.

His poetry, brought into focus against the backdrop of Jason’s accompaniment, forms an intricate collage reflecting the chaotic world around them.
